1. What are the minimum and recommended system specs for the UT3 demo?
The same as those for the full game, minus the 8GB HDD space requirement.

3. How do I enable anti-aliasing on NVIDIA GPUs in the UT3 demo?
1) Download and install nHancer.
2) Start nHancer and add the UT3 demo as a new game, making sure to point to the executable as well.
3) Under the “compatability” tab, click on the dropdown list for “anti-aliasing compatability” and select “00000045: Oblivion (AA & HDR)”.
4) Under the “enhancements” tab, select the anti-aliasing options you want.
5) Close nHancer, start the game and enjoy UT3 without jaggies.
Be aware that you’ll take a significant performance hit if you enable anti-aliasing this way in the UT3 demo. The full version of the game will come with DirectX 10 support which will feature in-game configurable anti-aliasing.
4. Is there a Linux/Mac client or server for the UT3 demo?
No Linux or Mac clients have been released yet. A Linux dedicated server has been released and is available from Icculus.org.
5. How do I enable death messages in the demo?
1) Open: My Documents\My Games\
Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\UTGame\Config\UTGame.ini
2) Find:

6. I need help getting a dedicated server set up!

7. I want to fiddle with configuration files and game logs, where are these files located?
They’re located in your My Documents\My Games\
Unreal Tournament 3 Demo folder.
8. I’m thinking of upgrading my CPU and/or graphics card. What should I get?
This AnandTech article has a pretty good breakdown of a different CPU and GPU factors and how they affect in-game performance.
9. How do I run performance benchmarks using the UT3 demo?
This forum post should provide all the information you need.
Cool Stuff 1. Play God with console cheats.
When you’re in-game, press TAB to bring up the console, and type the commands below. Hit enter when you’re done.
god – god mode, you take no damage
loaded – all weapons and full ammo
fly – fly through the air
ghost – fly through walls
walk – return to normal while in fly or ghost mode
2. Summon vehicles from the full game.

to summon vehicles from the full version of UT3. Note that some functionality or visuals may appear broken, and sounds are missing for most of them.

3. Summon the Instagib rifle.
Type the following at the console:

4. Check out the Translocator.
Use the loaded console cheat on DM-ShangriLa, then press Q to select and use the Translocator.
5. How to use the Impact Hammer alt-fire.
You can use the Impact Hammer’s alternate fire to knock power-ups like the UDamage, Berserk and Invisibility off enemies. It also does a significant amount of damage to vehicles when it’s fully charged. Two shots are enough to take out a Manta with full health.
6. Play around with Hoverboard stunts.
You can use these stunts to get around faster, dodge enemy shots or just show off.
Press crouch to duck down on your hoverboard. Release it to jump into the air. While you’re in the air, you can press primary fire or alt-fire to perform mid-air stunts. Be careful to finish your stunt before you hit the ground, or you’ll fall off your board!
You can also press forward+(left or right)+crouch to perform a mid-air spin. It’s also possible to tag the primary fire or alt-fire stunts onto a mid-air spin.
A neat trick is to jump off the top of the bridge in VCTF-Suspense and see what kind of cool tricks you can do on the way down.
Troubleshooting
1. I can’t register for a UT3 account using a UK keyboard because the console appears when I type “@”. Also I can’t quit without registering.
You can get around this by entering your email address in Notepad or another text editor and pasting it in the email field using CTRL+C and CTRL+V.
To quit at any time press the console key (usually ‘ or ` [tilde] depending on your keyboard layout), type “exit” and press Enter.
2. I can’t install the game on Windows XP 64-bit.
1) Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy
2) Right click on Software Restriction Policies and select New Software Restriction Policies from the popup menu.
3) Left click on Software Restriction Policies, right click on Enforcement, and select Properties from the popup menu.
4) Under Apply software restriction policies to the following users: click “All users except local administrators”. Click the Apply and OK buttons - you should now be able to install the UT3 Demo
3. The game crashes with the message “modified executable code is not allowed; please reinstall the game”.
A fix is available. Click here for more information.
4. In-game graphics look blocky or pixelated.
Go to Settings -> Video -> Advanced and check that the “screen percentage” is set to 100% as in this screenshot. Values below 100% may improve performance at the cost of image quality.
5. The game crashes with the message “detected negative delta time” on a system with an Athlon X2 dual-core CPU.
Download and install the AMD processor driver for your CPU here, then restart your computer.
6. The game crashes on a system with an NVIDIA GPU with a kernel32.dll error (not a blue screen crash).
1) Install the latest graphics drivers for your card and operating system from the official NVIDIA site.
2) If you are an administrator, Open: Program Files\
Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\UTGame\Config\UTEngine.ini, otherwise open: My Documents\My Games\
Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\UTGame\Config\UTEngine.ini
3) Change the line
bInitializeShadersOnDemand=False
to
bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
4) Restart before trying to play the demo again.
7. I’m noticing in-game hitches and stuttering when playing the demo on a GeForce 6 or 7 series GPU – this happens when something new is shown on-screen for the first time (e.g. when picking up new weapons).
1) Open My Documents\My Games\
Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\UTGame\Config\UTEngine.ini
2) Find the [Engine.ISVHacks] section.
3) Under [Engine.ISVHacks] heading, find the line that says UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=False.
4) Change that line to UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=True, and save the file.
8. I’m noticing input lag when playing UT3 on a Logitech keyboard/mouse.
This issue has been traced to Logitech SetPoint. If you’re experiencing this problem, try uninstalling SetPoint.
