my email hijacked?

ok this is weird.

I don't know if my email has be compromised or not. I received an email from a listserv in CA (server hub) saying I didn't have permission to send a certain email via their server. In other words, they received spam email FROM me.

Thing is:

1. I never sent the email they say I did!
2. its not from my address, proper

The email is some chinese spam email (see. below) Yes, its chinese, not korean. Its obviously a spammer using my a variation of my email address... specifically, its my email but with a DOT "." in it.

eg:
real email: myname @gmail.com
hijacked: my.name @gmail.com


I know its easy to fake/forge a FROM address for spammers or email (vERY EASY). and I checked all my spam boxes and SENT folders...and found nothing to indicate that my account was accessed that way.

Also, I know google/gmail restricts all dot variations of an email to the original account holder (ie: me). so, its NOT someone else with registered email the same as mine but with a dot.

just an unlucky use of my email name in a variation used by chinese spammers? or a real security risk.


The short of it is:

I don't know if I should I be worried or not. (?)


for reference, here is the email I received. (I blocked out my email, marked in red). again, my actual email does NOT have the DOT in it.)

hmm. idk man. wouldnt they see the diff in the name though?

That was happened to me several times, but i just ignored it cause sometimes they can even send some tricky emails to my account and some senders are not even on my namelist and besides what else do you expect it's an internet we are connected in one main server who knows every single details about all we have running through internet.

HMM all I can say is.. it doesnt make sense that they responded to YOU, instead of to the person with the "dots" email address. Makes me think no one has hacked your email... but that they used one similar to yours. Maybe send a note to that company saying you Know nothing about this and are concerned/ worried about someone trying to misrepresent you or hacking your email and also concerned about them sending messages to this company when it is unauthorized. And ask them to send you another email if any thing further comes in from this address.. Isn't there a way to check and see if someone has gotten into your email. If its a gmail account I would think that there would be a way.. or you could set it up to only recognize your computer?

Well that's a google thing.
Eg. if you own:

Gypsytsu @gmail.com


you automatically get all mail sent to gypsy.tsu, g.ypsytsu, gypsyts.u, etc. (ie: all dot variations are automatically sent to you). Its a google thing to allow for ownership of related.


TIP:
You can also use....

gypsytsu+fakespam @gmail.com

and it'll go to you as well...great for signing up for stuff and avoid getting spammed
