Negator's Guide To Pwnage
Tips from Negator... Ok took me a while to write this, this is for the noob players who are looking to improve their game to the next level, or the intermediate players who just dont know why the **** they keep losing! Feel Free to add any tips of your own, Im gonna delete them if they make no sense though :P
1.
Learn to dodge- With the ability to dodge comes speed, which is a huge advantage in Capture the flag..... forward dodges, while the hardest to learn, are the easiest to do. Although side dodges are faster, forward dodges are much more convenient. Just make sure u hold an adjacent side button when committing a forward dodge, because not only is a straight foward dodge redundant, it is prolly slower then walking straight unless u got a NOSTROMO or game controller where u can bind the dodge key. Dodge binding is lame btw

One other thing about dodging... the fastest you can dodge without editing **** in your .ini is after the first footstep coming out of a dodge. So after you dodge, you hear your own footstep, that would be the fastest time to get another dodge in. Usually people cant tap that fast, and can only do it after every TWO footsteps. However speed haxors like Sunny and Me got that **** downpacked, so when its time to turn on the speed, we do it consequtively after every footstep

Takes practice, took me a year to dodge correctly, and after 3 years of dodging I just now got the timing wonderfully
2.
Shooting: Straft Aiming - The easiest type of aim is strafting/timing, strafting while timing your shots. When you straft theyre should be no reason to move your mouse from head level... in zp at least. Because even if they are ducking, you will headshot anyways. The best thing to do is to move ure crosshair as close as possible to the enemy, and use your movement to frag them. You dont even need to aim in this case, you just gotta be able to time shots well

There is a major disadvantage to this style of play... your 10x more easier to hit... and anyone with good aim can time a shot and kill you

Whenever i play noobiestyles or i get lazy I use this style of play.
3.
Shooting: Dodge Aiming- Much more efficient type of killing.... using your dodges to time and frag your enemy. For instance, say your on a flatmap like football and theyres someone to the right just ahead of you. Dont even bother moving your crosshair.... just dodge ACROSS theyre body position, and time a shot mid-dodge, make sure that during the dodge, the crosshair will definetly pass their body. Once your good at this, dodging across the body wont be necessary, just make sure that the dodge will force your crosshair to, at some point, cross their body. Then all you need is good timing
4.
Aiming in General : Moving your crosshair for a frag is the hardest thing to do, and takes the most time to get used to. I'll put things into perspective though... when your on your desktop and you want to click on an icon... do you SLOWLY slide the mouse cursor over to it? Nah, you can usually just move your mouse quickly and end up landing on the icon. Now use this same philosophy with
Unreal Tournament, except that the mouse cursor is your crosshair and their head is the desktop icon

I personally use all of these methods, strafe aim, dodge aim, and just normal aiming. Dodge aiming will probably do you the most good, so learn how to dodge peoples
5
Aiming: Sensitivity: Find a good sensitivity that is comfortable for you. Usually the people with good aim have sensitivity between 1.50-2.8, ENOUGH SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE ONE HALF TURN WITH A SLIDE OF THE MOUSE. Make sure you can make a 180 turn if your planning on using a low mouse sens.... cuz if some1s behind you and you cant turn right away, then your gonna suck ass if your constantly being chased

I use a low sens (1.8 ), because like i said, 30 % of the time i dont even have to move my mouse, and if so only slightly. I use my movement to dictate my shots
6.
Crosshairs : One quick point on crosshairs.. make sure you pick a good color crosshair, b/c with some maps u wont be able to see your crosshair. CTF-Bedrooms comes to mind, with those gay white walls. I personally use the GOLD, THICK T style crosshair. I think its the best one
7.
Using Scope - I personally suck ass shooting at long distances, because I have sub-par aim. With scoping, you have to be able to aim well. Try to anticipate where the enemy will be and let off a shot when they reach the middle of your crosshair, best advice I can give. I tend to scope at midrange- far distances, or in long paths, like the low route of CTF-Diamond Sword. So little room for era that aiming is easy
8.
Headshots and Bodyshots- The best way to get good quick is easy... AIM FOR THE HEAD

A normal person who just spawns has 100 health, and in this case, one headshot = instant death. If you body shot the same 100 health person, then it would take 2 bodyshots for them to die. Thatd double the work man! Practice trying to aim only for the head, and sooner or later you should get better at it. Here are some more situations...
50 Armor 100 health: 1 headshot for kill
3 bodyshots for kill
100 Armor 100 health: 2 headshots for kill
1 headshot, 1 bodyshot for kill
3 bodyshots for kill
150 Armor 100 health: 2 headshots for kill
1 headshot, 2 bodyshots for kill
4 bodyshots for kill (!!!!)
9.
Running Offense: Usually a smart runner armors up before each run.... typically on a run on Coret I need to be shot 3 times in the head or 6 or 7 times to the body, because I take my bases armor, theigh armor in middle, OTHER teams armor, health while im in theyre base, theighs when i get to middle again, and my armor again.... depending on whos playing. If I know someone smart and fast is playing on the other team, ill **** getting the last theigh and armors I listed and run to base as fast as possible. With some maps its extremely tough to run offense because of the setup... CTF-Ancient comes to mind, where both the Bodyarmor- theigh pads, and health are stacked right in front of the flag. So your gonna have a hard ****ing time trying to cap against an intermediate player, let alone leet defense :P This is where teamwork comes into play, thats a little more complex though. I'll leave that for later
10.
SPPPEEEEEDD OFFENSEEE : Can be used effectively in middle when cover has wiped out most of the other team, but im talking about in certain maps where speed owns all. CTF-Morita... if you are able to time a good run and are able to kill a few people, you should be able to get to where the maze starts real quick. This is the time to turn it on.... you dont even have to look back, use the walls as coverage and worry about enemies when you get to the wide open space in base. Speed is pretty leet in complex maps where there are multiple routes to defend, like CTF-Noonraid. Just gotta make sure you got some cover in the middle, and the speedy player will take care of the rest
11.
Leading the Friendly Flag Carrier: Done by all coverage men, always gotta run ahead of your FCC and make sure no-one pops out and frags their ass.... nothing worse than that. Typically the runner outruns the lead coverer, such as a case where Sunny has flag and Sephir is leading him... Sunny is way faster than Seph :P So Seph would probably have to widen his lead distance to keep up with Sunny. In a map like CTF-EternalCaves2, lead coverage is essential to capping the flag.
12.
SPAWNKILL/SPAWNCAMP/DM COVERAGE- The only time where spawnkilling is effective is when its done in coverage. You spawnkill the enemy to prevent them from getting to your FFC during grabs, simple as that

Football comes to mind, where the spawnpoint right before the stairs in base is perfect for spawnkilling, and the teleporter to middle is perfect for spawncamp/dm. Get those two points secured and that should make capping much easier.
13.
Playing Defense: I have to admit, playing defense ****in sucks ass for some maps. Defense takes alot of patience, and skill if your opposite smart runners and if your team is incompetent. Example... CTF-Scandinaviumriffscustom. In this map the only real effective way to play defense is to sit in the flag room, since bases are so close together and if you go to middle and DM Defense your gonna seriously **** over your offense :P This map is so tough to defend because of the armor room directly under your base, which 80 % of the time, if your team isnt leet, will go to the other teams offense. So now you have to deal with fully armored runners, WITH JUMPBOOTS, who die tough and can juke you with those boots. A map like this you depend on ALL players to make a difference.
However, playing defense in certain maps is pretty easy. CTF-Ancient is one of them, and CTF-Football stands out also; any map where the armor is in base and the defender can get it.
14.
PUSHING UP!!- Push-up is a reference to when the defensive player pushes up the the middle to anticipate cover for his offense. Any smart defensive player knows when to do this, and if your using a teamspeak program this is even more effective. There is one thing you have to be careful of when you push up though, MAKE SURE ALL OF THE ENEMIES ARE ACCOUNTED FOR. For example... say that Sephir, Sunny and Gambit are playing Khan, Icey, and King. Sunny is making a run with gambit on coverage... and Khan and Icey are repeatedly killed. Seph pushes up (even though in a 3v3 you wouldnt normally push up :P) to help with the coverage. But wait, who killed King?! You have to automatically assume that she is in base waiting for the flag for a haxor return. So make sure in 5v5 situations in situations where you push-up to
1. Make sure base is clear
2. Leave a defender to make sure everything is Stat Quo.
3. If you know someone is in base be careful with blind spots, and if possible, have a coverage man lead you into base.
Certain players have a tendency to ALWAYS hide and try to make the flag save, so if your ever playing against element or monk, watch out
15.
FALLING BACK On Defense: Falling back, although lame, is extremely effective against tough offensives or teams with superior shots. If defense is getting rushed by 3 people simultaneously, thats a recipe for disaster. So the defender signals everyone, including the offensive players, to return to base and assist the defense in returning the flag. CTF-Coret is an ideal map for this strategy, because spawn points are scattered through base and map is relatively compact, so offensive men who wish to fall back can suicide or just run back to base. The danger with falling back too much is that when the other team feels safe, they can push up all the way to your base. So if theyre better shooters then your in some deep kaka! Usually 2 would fall back in a 3 O situation, gotta keep the pressure up to prevent a full-blown pushup by the other teams defense.
16.
CHASING/DM-ing- These methods are only effective when your team is in the lead and you would like to preserve it. Typically you would chase the best player on the opposing team... the one that you think would cause your defense the most problems. DMing refers to running around in the middle and killing as many people as possible. Not only is this lame, but you **** over your offense in the process by giving them more enemies to kill in the process of running O.
*If you feel that your defense is not good enough to handle the other teams offense, and switching positions is out of the question, then chasing MAY be a good method to use. Try to limit it on one player only however. Expect capping to be much harder for your team btw :P
ADVANCED TECHNIQUES
Suicide Binding- Bind the suicide command to a key... in the case of the opposing teams offensive rush, just suicide to return to base easily. Suiciding is also good if you took damage in base, and you want a fresh, 100 health start. Suiciding gives u a random spawnpoint each time, so this is good if u want a different spot to spawn in.
JUKING!!!- Usually for the fast, smart runners- A good juke can be done by faking one way and going another, freezing a defensive player in the process long enough to run away from them. If the person you froze was on ts, then they will probably confuse the whole team also, so this makes it extra effective. Juking can also consist of you hiding in base until your team pushes up long enough to spam the opposing team, leaving you with little burden to kill anyone for a successful run
Boot juking is good too, when you have jumpboots and use it to get to a higher level. This works great in CTF-orbital, to from lower level to higher level, or in CTF-Scandi, to get from bottom pit to top doors. One more point about juking... remember when you kill an enemy there is a brief moment where their dead body is speccing the area around which he died. Usually a defenseman can use this to tip off his team of your projected route. USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Fake one way right after you kill the enemy, then go the other
Then if you do this enough, take the obvious way the next time this happens. Your bound to trick em sooner or later :!:
Flag dropping- Works for a select few maps, and is frowned upon during competitive play... but its when you suicide purposely to drop a flag through a window, so a teammate can pick it up. It can also be when you drop from a high place you know you will die from, but having some1 wait near your deathspot to keep the run alive. This type of flag dropping is perfectly legal
Feigning Death- You would be surprised at how much this works, playing dead and letting people pass purposely. Works good for running offense mainly, less people to kill
Can also be used in defense... it is a kind of noobish technique tho for defense though :P
Decoy trick: In maps where theyre are two entrances, you can have both of your players enter the enemy base at the same time. Most of the time the enemy will only go after one enemy, leaving you with a clean shot at their base. Only worth using against the highly skilled teams though.
Gathering in Mid and rushing offense: This is when your offensive squad gathers in middle and rushes the opposing teams defense simultaneously. This makes the other teams defensive panic, and makes for an easier time. I wouldnt say this is the smartest thing to do.... penetration is just as important. However id imagine they would crack soon enough if you kept doing this
Other:
Binds: Make Teambinds, (EFC IS HERE, BASE IS DIRTY, etc)- Really helps team alot
Use TS: Dont have to worry about using binds
Picking a skin: Boss skin is real noisy, remember that :P Robot skins blend in for certain maps... also if your in a match, if you all pick the same skin, the enemy will have no idea who you are exactly, which is a good thing  Makes it harder for people to tipoff their teammates on ts. People are usually divas though, and for some people changing skins throws off their aim (psychological), thats why you dont see this done alot :P
Make a map yours!: Make sure you have a map that your team knows up and down, and that they own. This is apparent for us, TA, as we almost always pick coret for our map :P
Learn the maps you suck in: Gotta improve on these maps too. This is also apparent for ta, as we usually get pwnt in scandinavium :P
Learn to work as a team: Use all them tips and establish them during a scrimmage, that way when your in a match, you'll be used to the strategies.
Player Setups:
2 D 3 O - Usually best, most general setup to deal with. You can put your best shooters on Defense and not have to worry about them, or put your intermediates on D and be ready to fall back once in a while. Dont put any noobs on defense, that isnt good :\ Have your fastest players on offense, fast players arent too useful on defense.
2 D 2 O 1 Freelance- Should be used if your defence is kind of weak, and your in a medium sized map. Freelancer can assist in coverage and can fallback easily if base gets penetrated.
3 D 2 O- Used in the most extreme cases, where you know the other team is lethal. This involves alot of luck, as those 2 O players are gonna need alot of ****ing luck to cap!
4D 1 O- Use if your team is winning and time is gonna run out soon... you can usually hold out between 3-5 minutes before they push all O and rape you.
5D- Ehhh, use if theyres only 1 or 2 minutes left.
4 O 1 D- Use this if have a ph34r type player on defense :P OR, if the other team is a bunch of chasers who barely play O (eg WOD
) 1v1 Tips-
Thought id throw some 1v1 tips in.....
Amor Control- Most important thing about 1v1s.... your shot can be worse than the person your playing, yet if you can control armor, you have a huge advantage. Armor spawns every 28 seconds, so make sure u use the clock in your UT HUD to time your route accordingly.
Anticipate your enemies pattern- Usually in a 1v1 your enemy will take the same route over and over, or at least frequent it. So try to wait at a point you know he will cross, and catch em while hes offguard
Blindspots- Hiding in blindspots is effective if you know the persons route... free kills 8)
Make a map yours: Gotta have a map you specialize in, usually someone is more comfortable at one map then he is in another. For me, thats deck16][ and oblivion.
Practice: Work on your shot, and 1v1 alot if you plan on getting good at them. 1v1s help you improve your CTF aim also.
Keep in mind that just because someone is better than you in 1v1 doesnt mean they are better than you in ctf... right sunny?
